Volunteers change lives

Change lives at Tasaaga

Volunteers play a vital role at Tasaaga.
They bring new ideas, energy and skills to our teaching whilst offering our students experience of different cultures and a window to the world. Volunteers can be enormously inspirational to the students, helping them to understand their potential, grow in confidence and set them on a better path in life. For volunteers themselves, they can find their roles as teachers and mentors to be enormously fulfilling and rewarding. The experience of living and working in a small Ugandan village with children who benefit tremendously from your time and energy is one that you will remember for the rest of your lives.

The role of a volunteer.
Volunteer placements at Tasaaga generally last for 3-6 months. The school provides accommodation and food throughout their stay. Volunteers have their own room on the school premises. Other costs, such as flights, cannot be covered by the school and must be self-funded.

I am proud to have been a part of this important work in Sitabaale and the surrounding communities. As an Educator and Administrator, I cannot stress the importance a good educational foundation has in the lives and future opportunities of these young people. I found the community warm and welcoming......I will always cherish my time in Uganda and at Tasaaga.
— Lisa Ghigliazza (volunteer for six months in 2012)
Volunteering at the Tasaaga Primary School was an incredible opportunity to learn from and work alongside talented, passionate teachers while being inspired by their students’ eagerness to learn. From time spent in the classroom to eating matoke with the faculty to exploring the country on the back of a Boda, there is no better way to see central Uganda. Anyone who has the privilege of working with this team will carry it with them for the rest of their lives because you’re not just volunteering, you’re joining a family.
